Comparison · Hinge alternative
Hinge is a good app. We're a different one, built for a different goal.
Join the open betaFounding $9.99/mo · locked for life · ends Sept 1, 2026Hinge is a good app. It's the best of the major swipe-based apps for serious daters, and Match Group has invested real money in making it that way. If you're going to use a national dating app, it's probably the right choice. We're not here to trash it.
Heart of Gold is doing something different. We're an Austin-first dating app, connection-based instead of swipe-based, with ten levels of mutual choice that a connection moves through over time. We don't think we're a Hinge replacement for everyone. We think we're a better fit for a specific kind of person.

Pricing is approximate and changes — check Hinge's site for current rates. Our $9.99 founding price is real and locked for life for anyone joining before September 1, 2026.
Volume. Hinge has tens of millions of users worldwide and is the largest pool of "intentional" daters on a national app. If you live in a city where Heart of Gold doesn't operate yet, Hinge is going to give you more options. If you want the comfort of a brand-name app with a long track record, Hinge has that.
Hinge also has a more polished onboarding flow than we do — they've had years and a Match Group budget. Their prompts are well-designed and pull better profile content than we currently do.
Local context. Every member is in Austin or the broader Texas area, which means your matches actually live near you, know the same restaurants, and aren't going to want to FaceTime forever from another time zone.
Connection format. Hinge is fundamentally a swipe deck with prompts attached. Our format is a slower one — you talk to a few people at a time, and each connection moves through ten levels as you both decide to keep going. There's no infinite scroll and no engagement-maximizing loop pulling you to keep swiping.
Photo verification. Our perceptual hashing checks every uploaded photo against every other account, which catches ban evaders and stolen photos in a way Hinge's selfie verification doesn't.
Pricing. $9.99/month is roughly a third of what Hinge+ costs at full price, and our rate is locked for life if you join during open beta.

If you don't live in Texas, if you want maximum volume, if you've been on Hinge a long time and it's working for you — keep using Hinge. We mean that.
If you live in Austin, if you're tired of the swipe loop, if you want to talk to fewer people more carefully, if you've been on Hinge for a year and feel like you're seeing the same forty profiles — give us a try. Founding rate is locked for life if you join before September 1, 2026.
We also have comparisons to Bumble and Tinder, plus a roundup of the best dating apps in Austin.
No. We're trying to be the right app for a specific kind of person — local, intentional, ready to slow down. Hinge will continue to be the right choice for many people.
Plenty of our members do during the early days. Most settle into one over time.
We're a small team, Austin-focused, and not VC-backed for growth-at-all-costs. The economics work at $9.99 because we're not paying for billboard ads in twenty cities.
For founding members who join before September 1, 2026, yes. The rate is locked for the life of your subscription.
